CPCS A61 Appointed Person Course Content

It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training, the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:

➢ Understand the legal requirements for lifting operations

➢ Understand the roles and responsibilities of personnel involved in lifting operations

➢ Be able to identify different types of lifting equipment and lifting accessories

➢ Be able to determine the correct lifting accessories for a given load

➢ Be able to calculate the weight of loads

➢ Be able to identify unsafe lifting practices

➢ Be able to plan a lifting operation

➢ Understand the importance of communication during lifting operations

➢ Understand the need for regular inspection of lifting equipment and lifting accessories

➢ Understand the importance of record keeping

Entry requirements 

The CSCS Managers and Professional Health and Safety Test must be successfully completed within the 2 year period before the CPCS Technical Test.

Duration

The CPCS Appointed Person course is aimed at those with responsibilities for lifting operations in a construction environment. There are 2 levels available; Foundation and Experienced.

➢ The foundation course for novices typically lasts a total of 5 days; 4 spent on theory and practical training with a final practical technical test and CPCS theory The CPCS Appointed Person Training Course is relevant to those who are or are about to be appointed as an Appointed Person

➢ Appointed persons with past experience can take an Experienced Worker route, which may be more suitable depending on individual circumstances.

 

Certification

Learners will receive a Red CPCS Trained Operator Card on passing the CPCS technical tests, valid for two years.

After gaining on-site experience, you must complete an NVQ level 2 within two years to apply for the blue CPCS Competence Card which is renewable every five years
