CPCS A02 Crawler crane above 10t Course Content
It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training, the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:
➢ Describe the nature of the sector of industry and their role and responsibilities as a plant operator
➢ Name and explain the purpose of principal components, the basic construction, controls and terminology
➢ Conform with manufacturer’s requirements as per the operator’s handbook, other types of information source and relevant regulations and legislation
➢ Undertake all pre-use checks
➢ Configure and ready for travel
➢ Explain the procedures and precautions to be taken when travelling over rough, undulating ground
➢ Manoeuvre in confined spaces
➢ Safe, productive crane operation
➢ How to recognise and understand crane signals
➢ Crane positioning, including altering jib lengths and associated safety devices
➢ Routine maintenance
➢ The basic theory of power units, control systems and transmission systems
➢ Programming and understanding safe load indicators and duties charts
➢ Relevant legislation, statutory regulations and Codes of Practice
➢ Safe slinging and an understanding of the types and capacities of chains, slings and lifting gear
➢ Structural strength, including the effect of shock loading, stability and load displacement
➢ Carry out shut down and securing procedures
➢ Explain the de-rigging, loading and unloading procedures for machine transporting
Entry requirements
Candidates must have achived the Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test within the last 2 years, prior to course start date.

Duration
The CPCS Crawler Crane course is aimed at those operating a crawler crane in a construction environment. There are 2 levels available; Foundation and Experienced.
➢ The Foundation Course for novices typically lasts a total of 10 days; 9 spent on theory and practical training with a final practical technical test and CPCS theory. The CPCS Crawler Crane Training & Testing Course is relevant to those who operate crawThe CPCS Crawler Crane Training & Testing Course is relevant to those who operate crawler cranes in a construction environment. Foundation & Experienced Worker courses both available depending on experience.
➢ Operators with past experience can take an Experienced Worker CPCS course, which may be more suitable depending on individual circumstances.
Certification
Learners will receive a Red CPCS Trained Operator Card on passing the CPCS technical tests, valid for two years.
After gaining on-site experience, you must complete an NVQ level 2 within two years to apply for the blue CPCS Competence Card which is renewable every five years
